About us

Izegem: City of brushes and shoes! For generations it has been associated with the cobble city. For the past 2 years, the Eperon d’Or museum in Izegem has been collecting this rich local history in their beautifully renovated building, with great respect. This inspired Bhobo Brush, a local company and one of the drivers of the brush industry, to develop a product line around the Eperon d’Or name.

Christophe Hochepied, manager of Bhobo Brush and visionary of the idea explains: Izegem, brush city: it seems like the distant past, but nothing is less true.  An enormous volume of brushes is still being distributed worldwide from Izegem annually. And believe it or not: that trend is still growing. Travel to the other end of Flanders and it often doesn’t take long before the shoes & brushes labels are stuck onto Izegem. A lot of the small local shoemakers have disappeared, but the brush industry remains an important economic vein of our city. In total, more than 16 million brushes are produced and traded every year. Compared to 50 years ago, that’s 4 times as many. A logical consequence of industrialization, but that also includes manufacturing today. In the Eperon d’Or museum, the history of this industry is nicely illustrated while at the same time, the current situation & future potential are explained. It inspired me to create a brand that bridges the gap between the craftsmanship of today and the traditional ‘crafts’ of yore. Naming it ‘Eperon d’Or’ is to honour that rich tradition.
